Life in Australia & What I Watched Last WeekIn the last few Cinephile’s Lounges I discussed my move from The Netherlands to Australia. I’m starting to get settled finally, which is great. We also finally got our furniture – took 13 weeks (and a bit), while the moving companies told us it’d take 6-9 weeks. But now that we have our stuff, we’re starting to feel at home!While the rest of the world is happy spring’s finally coming, we’re heading into winter here. The weather’s already shifted a bit, it’s still a decent temperature outside but the sky isn’t always clear and sunny anymore, and we’ve already had quite a bit of rain. I’m curious to see what winter’s like here, apparently snow and frost are rare here, which is what I’m used to for winters.Anyway, I’ve been watching some movies, good ones (Noah I guess I could say was good, and The Wolf of Wall Street), and really bad ones (Free Birds, Cloudy with a Chance of Meat Balls 2, apparently I was in the mood for bad animated movies?) and Divergent which fell somewhere in the middle.This weekend I’m attending the screening of Only Lovers Left Alive, which I’m curious to see, and Monday I’m attending the screening of Chinese Puzzle (“Casse-tête Chinois”), a French movie. I think it’s fairly ironic that the movie’s called Chinese Puzzle, is a French movie and is set in New York. Very curious to see how all that makes sense.As for TV, I’ve been very disappointed with the second season of The Following – the characters are just flailing about and no one has ANY clue what the story should be, least of all the writers. The first season was amazing, and this is such a major let down. A second season that’s not a let down is that of Hannibal, which is as amazing as the first. I know I have to rewatch it to get all the fine nuances, but that show is just brilliant.Finally – who’s excited for the start of season 4 of Game of Thrones? Wait, let me rephrase that. Who’s NOT excited? …*chirp chirp chirp* That’s right! Just a few more days!Chatter in the Online MoviesphereHere are a few articles I enjoyed reading this week, and can heartily recommend!Andrew Ellington discussed Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac moviesAt Cinema Axis, they covered The Metamorphosis of Matthew McConaughey, which I loved to read about since I just finished True Detective last week – McConaughey has proven to be capable of more than he let on!Here’s Cinematronix’ podcast on their favorite songs used in action movies…At FilmDebate, they wonder whether the film industry can do justice to the female heroes, as they seem to be largely ignored and mashed in with the male super hero movies.Candice at Reeltalk discusses the outrage surrounding the film adaptation of Jem and the Holograms.
